Due to its age, this tawny has tremendous power, depth and complexity. It has richly spiced aromas of smoky plums and honeyed pecans and a concentrated palate, with fruit cake, butterscotch, caramel and roasted nut flavours, lifted by a racy acidity. Serve with sticky baklava or brie.

Dating from 1692, the House quickly realised that the more muscular wines of the upper Douro Valley greater suited the British taste, and ventured into previously uncultivated areas to seek out vineyard sites.
