About
Damilano company is one of the oldest cellars in Barolo with antique traditions, going back over hundreds of years. The Damilano family business dates back to 1890 when the commune of Barolo – the town in the Langhe which gave its name to the homonymous wine, the generous and beautiful land which has shown its vocation to produce “the king of wines”- Giuseppe Borgogno, great grandfather of the present owners , started cultivating and making wine from the grapes from his own Vineyards. It is with great passion that Giacomo Damilano, the founder’s son-in-law, developed together with his children the work and the love for his vineyards, selecting and taking great care of them, and therefore bettering the quality of the vinification turning it into a “jewel” and with great pride passing it down to his grandchildren Paolo, Mario and Guido Damilano who have been running the business since 1997, they gave new vigour and impulse to the family company by strenghting and developing the fruit which this extraordinary land offers. The grapes that are used to make Damilano wines come from the 53 hectares of vineyards which the company dedicates with the same care, ability and respect of the founders, but with the contemporary knowledge to get the maximum quality. They are precious vines, placed in choosen areas, most of all for the Nebbiolo grape production. The history of the Cellar is tied particularly to the Cannubi Vineyard, placed in a postion amongst the best of the most famous Barolo cru; it is the connection with this vineyard that characterises the development policy towards high quality; the recent acquisition of 8 hectares of Cannubi, which have been added to the 2 hectares already owned, permits Damilano to lead 60% of the prestigious hills and therefore increasing the wine production of Barolo Cannubi from 9.000 bottles to 50.000 bottles The wine production is around 322 thousand bottles a year, the company produces mostly red wines. The excellence of the wines produced finds its most representative bishop in the Barolo. The Cannubi Crus, Brunate, Cerequio and Liste are distinguished by a very different organoleptic spectrum, characteristics of the land, that from the inborn elegance of Cannubi and Brunate to the more decisive and structured characteristics of Cerequio and Liste.
