Seriously Old Dirt by Vilafonté 2019
Description
Seriously Old Dirt 2019 displays a brilliant, deep garnet-red colour. This wine delivers layers of fresh fruit on the nose; plum, black cherry, and blackberry along with warm notes of baking spice and vanilla pod. Subtle liquorice and seductive tobacco and hazelnut add a luxurious dimension. Flavours of ripe black cherry develop into lovely mineral notes, along with a lingering finish. Sumptuous and supple, with a line of acidity, giving elegance and balance.

Viticulture
Cabernet sauvignon is grown across the Western Cape on terroir ideally suited for the growth thereof. With richly textured soils ranging from decomposed granite and shale to loamy clay soils. The region has a typical Mediterranean climate, with cold wet winters and warm summers. In the shadow of the persistent drought condition, the preceding winter to harvest 2019 saw the drought break with good rainfall – forming the basis for a good vintage to follow. Fluctuating weather conditions saw an uneven budbreak, which required in-bunch sorting to maintain quality. Weather conditions improved at the onset of summer. Warmer weather in November was conducive to vineyard growth. A testament in resilience of the winegrowing team, the wines of this vintage show freshness, concentration and elegance.
Vinification
Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in stainless steel tanks, with small portion being fermented French oak barrels.
Maturation
Matured for eighteen months in older French oak barrique.
